Energy Bliss Balls

I am often asked for this recipe, but I find it a very hard one to share as I make them differently every time!  So I encourage you to experiment, use what you have around, use what you know the family enjoys, and then share your experiments in the comments section below!

From a very young age the children have loved helping with these.  As they require no baking they are getting more independent at making these now – it is a matter of putting the ingredients in a food processor, turning it on (and oh how they love pushing the button), rolling them into balls, into coconut and into a container.  I set up a little production line of helpers.

As with most of my recipes this is sugar and dairy-free, can be gluten-free (by omitting the rolled oats) and nut-free by choice and this one is also egg-free.

I make a couple of different bliss ball recipes at a time, and freeze them in clip-lock bags.  Then I can just grab something different each day when packing the lunchboxes.

Energy Bliss Balls

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of nuts, seeds, and optionally rolled oats (eg: about 1 cup of almonds and 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds; or 1 cup of sunflower seeds and 1/2 cup rolled oats; or 1 1/2 cups of sunflower and pumpkin seeds)
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 cup dried apricots, soaked in boiling water for 10 mins to soften (preferably unsulphured)
  • 1/4 cup liquid approximately (fresh squeezed orange juice or water)
  • extra coconut for rolling

Method:

  1. Put the nuts and seeds into a food processor and grind.
  2. Add the coconut, apricots, and water.
  3. Process until the mixture forms a dough.
  4. Roll teaspoonful’s into tight balls, roll in coconut and keep in an airtight container in the fridge.

  2. Hi, this is the first time I’ve tried making a raw snack and just wondering if I need to dehydrate the nuts & seeds before putting in food processor? I like to activate them so they were soaking overnight but noticed that the end result was rather moist and wondering if this is normal or not? Thanks, Erica

    1. Hi Erica,
thanks for your comment. I also like to activate my nuts and seeds so understand. I do try to keep a stash of activated/dehydrated nuts to use, but also have used them just soaked, drained and rinsed. I tend to just add some more ‘dry matter’ like extra coconut to the balls, and I store them in the freezer – and eat them straight from the freezer! Let me know how you get on, and please sing out with any other questions 🙂
      Bron x
